Days of defence closing arguments wrap, Crown begins making its final case at world juniors sex assault trial
‘Boys to men’ language change
E.M. purposely used certain words to advance her agenda, Greenspan says, calling her a “biased and motivated witness.”
In 2018, she called the accused “boys.” At ttrial, she called them “men,” as did the Crown during her opening arguments, Greenspan reminds the judge.
“The subtle change might not cause people to bat an eye,” but in this case, it points to a witness who is “not worthy of belief.”
“It should cause the court not just to bat an eye but to see the witness as someone who wanted to change the narrative,” Greenspan says. “I suggest that she changed it from boys to men because of a clear agenda.”
E.M. testified she changed the wording because she understood more in 2025 than she did in 2018, and that’s how she referred to guys back then, and how she refers to them now.
“She has an agenda. She has an axe to grind,” Greenspan says.
